Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial

August 16, 2013

This might be a bit too serious for a Friday, but this is something I’ve been meaning to share and I guess there’s never better time than “now”.

Just as we were leaving France we stumbled upon a town called St.Avold (right on the border with Germany). It’s a pretty little town that has a magnificent church, yet it’s probably best know for the Lorraine American Cemetery that contains the largest number of graves of American military dead of World War II in Europe, a total of 10489.

It was really hard to take in how many people lost their lives… and once again reminded us how important peace is!
