Dutch Kitchen Garden (Keukenhof)

May 9, 2015

Keukenhof – world-famous attraction with its history going back to the 15th century. Believe it or not everything started with a lady gathering fruit and vegtables from the woods and dunes for the kitchen of Teylingen Castle.

“The birth of Keukenhof as a spring park dates back to 1949, when a group of 20 flower bulb exporters came up with a plan to use the estate for a permanent exhibition of spring-flowering bulbs. The park opened its gates to the public in 1950 and was an instant success, with 236,000 visitors in the first year alone.”

Here’s what the park looked like in April 2015:

And here’s the last photograph, just to show you how busy this garden was… (My advice – come very early in the morning, it opens at 8 am.)

Thank you for leaving a comment, Valorie. Keukenhof is fabulous and it’s not enough to see photographs… It took my breath away, it’s definitely the prettiest garden I’ve ever been to. Kristina

I knew you’d like this garden, Lisa. Especially the purple tulips and hyacinths, right? 🙂 K. x
